Music

Intent

At Shortlanesend School, music plays an integral role in inspiring children to develop a love of music, enabling them to deepen their self – confidence and creativity.

We aim for our pupils to:

  • Play, perform, and enjoy music to a range of audiences
  • Listen to and evaluate music from a wide variety of historical periods and genres
  • Understand and explore how music is created, produced, and communicated
  • Confidently explain and use vocabulary related to music
  • Experience playing an instrument

At SLE, we follow the 'Charanga' scheme for music as well as incorporating progression in musical instruments such as ocarinas and ukuleles. During the Autumn term, we have First Access lessons to deliver music in Reception, Year 3 and Year 6.

Music education can help spark a child's imagination or ignite a lifetime of passion. When you provide a child with new worlds to explore and challenges to tackle, the possibilities are endless.
