Our Staff

  • Mr Chad Wilson

    Head of School

    Hello!
I have the great honour of being Head of School at Shortlanesend. I joined the school in 2009 as Year4/5/6 teacher and Assistant Head and have enjoyed every minute of my time here since. Before I arrived here I taught in a range of schools in Hayle, Plymouth (my home town) and Bedford. I have been involved in education for over 25 years; through which I remained true to ideal that education is about developing the whole child - It is the igniting of a fire, not the filling the bucket. I believe that the children, parents and staff at Shortlanesend school are equally passionate about education, and all help to create a friendly, warm, safe and stimulating environment.
Outside of school I am a passionate supporter of many sports - especially rugby, enjoy live music and spending quality time with my wife and two children.

  • Mr Mark Easter

    Teacher

    Hello,
My name is Mr Mark Easter and I am currently the teacher in Class 4. I have now been at Shortlanesend for 3 years and it has been an absolute privilege to work in such a supportive and friendly school. All the children at the school are amazing and are always surprising me with their curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm. Teaching is a relatively new profession for me after many years of being a chef and then working in the environmental sector with Natural England (12 years as a Reserve Warden on Goss Moor National Nature Reserve). I am passionate about the outdoors and wildlife and love wet and windy walks down at the beach or in the woods with my family.

  • Mrs Kelly Lewis

    Year 1 and 2 teacher

I started teaching back in 2007 in Oxford at a lovely but challenging school. I enjoyed it so much that I taught there for nearly 7 years! I have taught all ages from Nursery all the way up to Year 4. Year 1 has a special place in my heart though, as my very first class were Year 1! The children from that class are teenagers now! I decided that after 7 years it was time to move on. My next school was a brand new one! In 2013 I took the role of KS1 Leader at a school in Aylesbury. We started with only 60 pupils. Now it has over 200! Although I loved my new school, I was missing Cornwall. I grew up in Truro and decided it was time to move back. So here I am. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Class 2 last year and am thrilled to be working with all the children in Class 2 again this year. Shortlanesend is a very special place, it feels that I’ve always been here!

My family and I are loving being in Cornwall and when I am not working you will probably find me on a beach looking in rockpools and digging in the sand with my three year old son, Archie. My other interests include playing netball, going for walks and having tea and cake!

  • Mrs Debra Stanhope

    Teacher

Hello, My name is Mrs Stanhope and I have worked at Shortlanesend since 2009.
Before having my two children I taught for 10 years in Early Years and Year 1. I now work two days a week teaching across the school in Classes 1 and 3.
I am passionate about music and love being involved with the Performing Arts group at school and teaching singing to all the children.
Outside of school, as well as bringing up my children, I lead the music in a Church in Truro and help with a youth group. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, usually making sandcastles on the beach, going on woodland walks and having picnics in the park.

Mrs Kirsty Ashley
Class 3 teacher and English Coordinator

Hello, my name is Kirsty Ashley and I am one of the teachers in Class 3 and also the English Coordinator across the school. I joined the team at Shortlanesend in 2006 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, teaching various different year groups. I have always wanted to teach and have now been a teacher for 18 years. My aim is to provide the children with a rich and engaging curriculum so that they can develop as individuals and gain the skills needed to become life long learners.
When not at school I am kept very busy by my three boys and can often be found on the beach.

  • Miss Nicki Oxenham

    SENCo and Class 5 teacher

    Hello,
My name is Miss Oxenham and I have worked at Shortlanesend in various capacities since 2010. I have been a volunteer, a supply teacher, a teaching assistant and now a teacher and SENCo. I currently teach Year 5 and 6 in Class 5.
Outside of school, I can often be found on one of our beautiful beaches with my beloved Cockerpoo and the children love hearing stories about what Effie has been up to!

  • Mrs Knight

    EYFS teacher

    Hello,
I am Mrs Knight and am a teacher at Shortlanesend School, I'm really enjoying learning alongside the children in Reception and being part of such a fantastic team.
I joined Shortlanesend School in 2016 after spending 5 years teaching in a German military school. I really enjoyed living in another country and being part of supporting a military community.
I love the creativity and unexpected twists and turns the learning takes in the Reception year. The child-led learning keeps me on my toes and ensures every new year group of children bring a whole different set of exciting challenges.
Outside of school I enjoy being outdoors, walking and running along the lovely Cornish coast.
